What are stair lifts?

Their advantages
1. Introduction

Something as simple as going up or down a flight of stairs can be a real problem for an elderly person. As far as we at General Elevadores are concerned, taking care of our elders is an absolute priority, which is why we have been working on accessibility for more than 30 years in order to break down all the architectural barriers that make life difficult for these people.

If a home has a flight of stairs up to the top floor, a stair lift can be installed to solve this problem for people with mobility issues. But… What exactly is a stair lift?

2. What are stair lifts?

In a simplified manner, a stair lift, as the name suggests, is a lift system fixed to the staircase railing or bannister that enables a person to move from one floor to another. The chair is mechanised and will move along these rails until it reaches the top floor.

This system has become an essential tool in helping elderly people to move around their home when going up and down stairs, which, due to being very simple and affordable, is the perfect choice for negotiating distances in the event of such difficulties. Stair lifts are highly adaptable and easy to install in any type of home, which makes them a more than feasible option when needed.

General Elevadores markets two types of stair lift:

- Straight route: This model has a capacity of 127 kg and is one of the most compact, reliable and safest stair lifts on the market. It is easy to use due to its remote control system and it operates silently and smoothly. The installation of this device will require a minimum stair width of 62 cm and a maximum travel distance of 8 metres.
- Curved route: We have a wide range of chairs for curved staircases that adapt perfectly to the type of stairs in your home. Assembly is quick and involves no works. You will require a minimum stair width of 75 cm, depending on the route.

3. Advantages of stair lifts

Stair lifts have countless advantages when it comes to making life easier for both the elderly and people with mobility issues. We have listed some of them below:

- They are very simple to operate and use a remote control system. This ensures the operator has no problems when starting up the equipment. Moreover, the remote control system enables you to turn the seat of the chair and get off without any problems, should the need aris.

- Furthermore, we should highlight the comfort afforded by this type of device. It takes up very little space due to the folding chair, meaning having one in your home will cause no inconvenience whatsoever.

- These lifts are simple easy to install. As we have already mentioned, the installation procedure requires no work so this will not be an added concern.
