1. Introduction
We’re glad to have you back! At General Elevadores, we know that your pet is part of the family. That’s why, with the arrival of the new regulations, we want to tell you how these improvements required by the new ITC in lifts not only increase safety for people, but also for our furry friends. So, sit back and let’s find out together how the new ITC affects pet owners. This regulation makes your building or community a safer and more comfortable place for everyone.
2. The new ITC and its impact on security
First, let’s have a recap: The new Complementary Technical Instruction (ITC in Spanish) has been designed to ensure the safety of all lift users, including our four-legged friends. This regulation, which updates the design and maintenance standards for lifts, seeks to minimise risks in daily movements within residential buildings. In its implementation, special emphasis is placed on adaptations that protect both humans and their pets. If you need more details about this regulation, we invite you to take a look at the Official State Gazette (BOE).
3. Improvements in the design of lifts for pet safety
In the latest update of the ITC AEM 1 (In the latest update of the ), provisions are included that specifically consider measures to ensure the safety of all users, including pets, which was not explicitly mentioned in the previous version from 2013.
In the new August 2024 version, it mentions pets as potential users of lifts, establishing requirements for their protection, such as improvements in sensors and safety devices on doors.
This makes it necessary to implement advanced technologies, such as more sensitive sensors to detect movements close to the floor (where pets are often located). All companies that design and manufacture lifts must comply with this, including ours.
4. Tips for the safe use of lifts with pets
For our part, don’t worry, at General Elevadores we will help your community to comply with this latest regulation. But we also leave you with some tips to ensure a safe use of the lift when using a lift with your pet:
- Keep the lead short when entering and exiting the lift and avoid leaving it outside the lift when the doors are closing. Although, in modern lifts there should be no problem with this, as it will detect the lead.
- Pay attention to your pet’s behaviour: Identify signs of stress or fear to calm them down before going up.
- Avoid them touching buttons: Pets, especially curious dogs, could inadvertently activate lift functions.
At General Elevadores, we are committed to the safety and comfort of our customers, and that includes their pets. If you would like more information or advice on how the new ITC affects pet owners, or how to adapt your lifts to the new ITC, please do not hesitate to contact us. .
